SUCCULENT CACTUS PLANT FROM MEXICO OFFERS GENTLE, NATURAL ROUTE TO WASTE ELIMINATION AND OVERALL WELLBEING
With 40% of us spending £360 million on health supplements every year Oro Verde® Organic Nopal launches in the UK this month with a simple message - go natural for better health.
Nopal is a natural whole food grown at high altitude in Northern Mexico. It comes from the pad of the prickly pear nopal cactus, which is used widely in the staple diet of the region.
The nopal cactus is renowned for its unique combination of dietary fibres, nutrients, vitamins and minerals and is believed to be over 12,000 years old.
Taken regularly as part of a healthy diet this natural, 100% organic food is proven to cleanse the colon and increase the efficiency of the digestive system. It can also improve overall wellbeing and helps to revitalise and strengthen the whole body, as well as controlling a wide range of circulation, heart and digestive disorders.
Oro Verde® Organic Nopal comes from the edible Opuntia ficus indica variety of nopal cactus. There are two food crops derived from the nopal. One is the "nopalitos", or the cactus pads, and the other is the ‘prickly pear’ fruit of the cactus, grown in Northern Mexico. Both are eaten fresh in the region.
The three largest producing nopal states all have altitudes exceeding 2000m. Oro Verde® comes from these high altitude, volcanic fields, situated on a steep pine-forested slopes at 2400m - the ideal growing conditions for premium organic nopal.
Oro Verde® farmers produce mature nopal stems that grow up to 30cm in length. This length of stem is prized as the most fibrous in Mexico delivering mature nopal pads of exceptional nutritional quality.
These nopal pads are cut from the stems, then washed, sliced and solar dehydrated and sterilised before being ground down into powder form and packed into 335g sealed bags.
Complementary Therapist Angela Jones, who runs her own clinic in Gateshead, said, “Organic Nopal is incredibly rich in fibre and will gently and naturally aid the body in getting rid of waste, which is essential to wellbeing. But it also has extra vitamins and minerals - like iron. Even people with healthy diets are often deficient in iron. It is a fantastic food.”
Oro Verde® Organic Nopal is best taken as one heaped teaspoon (5g) three times a day (approx 15g in total) shortly before or together with a meal. The powder should be stirred into fruit juice or sprinkled over cereal or porridge. Heating does not affect nopal’s nutritional properties so it can also be added into baked foods like bread or pizza bases.
Go to www.nopallife.com for more information and to buy online. One month’s supply (based on recommended 15g daily consumption) costs £19.90 (inclusive of p&p).

Main health benefits
·Nopal contains both soluble and insoluble dietary fibres. The insoluble dietary fibre in nopal absorbs water and gently hastens food through the digestive track and contributes to regular bowel movements.
·In addition the presence of insoluble fibres in the colon help to dilute the concentration of potential carcinogens that may be present. Soluble fibres also contribute to regularity. Nopal is a gentle alternative for those with a sensitivity or allergy to psyllium.
·Nopal's natural vitamin (A, B1, B2, B3, C) content, its minerals (calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, iron) and fibres (in lignin, cellulose, hemicelluloses, pectin, mucilages, and gum) together with its 17 amino acids helps detoxify and support not only the liver but also the body in general.
·Ammonia, free radicals and environmental toxins such as alcohol and cigarette smoke, which all suppress the immune system, are removed by nopal.
·Nopal also aids in the balancing and calming of the nervous system, which benefits the body's overall function.
